Banksy Adventures

7 May

On one of my trips to San Francisco, my friend and I decided it would be fun to map out all of Banksy’s artwork and create an adventure out of it. For those of you who have been living under a rock for the last 10 years, Banksy is a British artist who is made famous for not only his artwork, but the messages behind them and his sneaky tactics. Nobody knows who he really is.

I’ve looked at his book Wall and Peace and every single creation has a story behind it, a meaning. I couldn’t wait to see his work with my own eyes.

I realized how respected this man was; they placed plexi glass over the work so people wouldn’t destroy it.

Mission & Erie

This originally was just his tree and the bird. When we got there we were shocked to see the transformation. I’ll admit I was kind of sad, but at least his work is still there.

This made me sad, I would assume that some young kids just don’t know the significance of Banksy. However, once I got home it dawned on me that with the area he chose and the message he made, it was most likely offensive to someone.

After hours of walking, eating, and drinking, we decided to call it a day, but we had to see the rat 🙂

There is more Banksy art in SF that we did not see, some we couldn’t find and some had been painted over.
This man is so sneaky and creative, it’s unreal. I heard about his documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop and I ended up getting it for Christmas. I’ve watched it 6 times already and without spoiling any of it for you, all I’ll say is GO BUY IT!

I wish Banksy would sneak into Seattle. I find myself looking at large walls thinking, Banksy would love this!
